What Wainwright said:

"The distinctive double summit of Angletarn Pikes is a familiar feature high above the Patterdale valley: the two sharp peaks arrest attention from a distance and are no less imposing on close acquaintance, being attainable only by rock scrambling; easy or difficult according to choice of route".

Angletarn Pikes (taking its plural name from the two rocky towers at the summit) sits on the edge of the ridge that surrounds Martindale, a system of separate valleys that drain north into Ullswater. The two peaks are separated by a boggy depression with the northern top being the true summit, the other being around two metres lower. The southern top does, however, have a clear view of Angle Tarn, described by Wainwright as among the best of Lakeland tarns.

The view from the summit stretches from the Helvellyn range to the spine of the Far Eastern Fells across Martindale.
