The well-appointed summit of Binsey

"Binsey is the odd man out. This gentle hill rises beyond the circular perimeter of the Northern Fells, detached and solitary, like a dunce set apart from the class. It is of no great height yet it is too good to omit from these pages".

Binsey stands at the northern edge of the Lake District, detached from the rest of the Lakeland hills. Despite this, Binsey provides a good platform for surveying the Northern Fells and has expansive views of the coastal plain towards the Solway Firth.

For a small fell, the summit is well appointed. It is home to a tumulus whose stones have been raided to produce several small circular wind shelters. There is also a modern cairn atop the tumulus and an OS trig point.
