What Wainwright said:

"Grange Fell is nothing on the map, everything when beneath one's feet. In small compass, here is concentrated the beauty, romance, interest and excitement of the typical Lakeland scene. Here nature has given of her very best and produced a loveliness that is exquisite".

Grange Fell is situated in the Borrowdale valley overlooking the villages of Grange and Rosthwaite. The fell has a summit plateau which consists of many heather-covered hummocks, drystone walls and clumps of trees.

Grange Fell is owned by the National Trust and was one of its first acquisitions in the Lake District in 1910; the fell was purchased by public subscription as a memorial to King Edward VII at the request of the King’s sister Princess Louise.

The view from the top of the fell is quite beautiful: King's How gives a classic view of Derwentwater with Skiddaw in the background, while Borrowdale and the high fells round its head show well in the opposite direction.
