What Wainwright Said:

"Great Dodd, well named, is the most extensive of the fells in the Helvellyn range. Grass is everywhere: it offers easy and pleasant tramping but no excitements."

Great Dodd stands on the main ridge of the Helvellyn range. With a height of 857m, it is the highest of the fells in this range to the north of Sticks Pass.

Its name simply means 'big round hill', which is particularly apt in this instance, the summit of Great Dodd is a smooth, grassy, rounded dome, like its two southern neighbours.

There is a good view all around, though this lacks foreground when seen from the summit because of the gently rounded nature of the fell.
