What Wainwright said:

"Perhaps, to be strictly correct, Rossett Pike and the fell of which it is part should be regarded as the north-east shoulder of Bowfell continuing from Hanging Knotts to Langstrath, but the sharp rise across the saddle of Rossett Pass is so pronounced that, for present purposes, Bowfell may be considered to terminate at the pass.

Rossett Pike stands on the ridge of high ground that links the Central Fells to the Southern Fells. Three peaks stand on this ridge; Buck Pike, Black Crag and the highest, Rossett Pike. Many writers consider these three in one though Black Crags has a sufficient prominence to be classed as a hill in its own right.

Rossett Gill runs down the western side of Rossett Pike and forms one of the main walkers' routes out of Langdale via the Rossett Pass.

The summit of Rossett Pike is topped by a cairn on a rocky outcrop and, justifying its position at the head of Mickleden, provides a fine view of the valley and the Langdale Pikes. Bowfell looms over Rossett Pike to the west.
