What Wainwright said:

"From north, south, east and west Thunacar Knott is completely unphotogenic, and the best that any illusion can produce is a slight roughness of the slowly-swelling curve that forms its broad summit. This uninspiring characteristic extends to the whole fell, which is quite deceitful in interest."

Despite being located in one of the most popular areas of the Lake District, Thunacar Knott is often by-passed by walkers because of its uninspiring appearance, being just a slight rise on the moorland between Harrison Stickle and High Raise. Indeed, many people do not regard it as a separate fell.

The summit of the fell has two tops, with the southern top being the highest point while the northern top has the more significant cairn and is often regarded as the true summit. Views to the west belie the fells 'insignificant nature'.
