What Wainwright said:

"Raise deserves a special cheer. It is the only summit in the Helvellyn range adorned with a crown of rough rocks - and they make a welcome change to the monotony of the green expanses around Sticks Pass."

Raise stands on the fine north-south ridge of the Helvellyn range and while it is a large mountain at 883m, it's overshadowed by the higher peaks in the range. Raise is usually reached via Sticks Pass, the highest pass in the District crossed by a regular bridleway.

The southern side of Raise is carved out by Kepple Cove, the site for an unsuccessful hydroelectric scheme. The scheme failed when the dam holding back the water collapsed during a violent storm in 1927 sending a destructive wave down the valley to the village of Glenridding.

The summit of Raise is grassy and broad, topped by a rocky outcrop and a large cairn that draws the eye to the summit.
