The summit of High Pike looking towards Dove Crag
What Wainwright said:

"Viewed from the south, High Pike has an appearance of an isolated peak; viewed from the parallel ridges, it is seen in its true proportions as merely the flat top of a rise in Dove Crag's long southern ridge".

High Pike, like many of the Lakeland fells can be deceiving. As Wainwright says, when it is viewed from the south, especially from the neighbouring Low Pike, it looks like an impressive, triangular peak. However, from all other angles, it is simply a small rise on the ridge descending from Dove Crag down into Ambleside.

Often climbed as part of the Fairfield Horseshoe, a substantial drystone wall crosses the summit providing an easy navigation aid in even the worst weather.

Views from the summit are limited by the surrounding higher fells though Low Pike, Ambleside and Windermere are prominent as well as a peak at the Far Eastern Fells.
