Not to be confused with the much smaller Crag Hill in the Yorkshire Dales, Crag Hill in the north western fells was once called Eel Crag before being re-branded by the Ordnance Survey. Wainwright still refers to it as Eel Crag in his iconic Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells. Now, the name if Eel Crag is confined to the rocky outcrop on the northern side of Crag Hill.
The second highest fell in the north western area, the view from Crag Hill is particularly good towards the Scafells though Grasmoor obscures much of the view to the west.
